Scott Shelley becomes Team PKR Pro’s first bracelet winner

PKR announced today that Home grown poker sensation Scott Shelley is to be the newest member of Team PKR Pro. The 24 year old from North London is the first member of Team PKR Pro to win a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet.

A regular live and online poker player, Shelley started at PKR 4 years ago as part of the Customer Services team. In 2009, after winning a staff championship, he played in his first ever £1k event at the WSOPE*, coming a credible 75th. Entering this year’s £1k No Limit Hold’em event, he beat a field of 582, including legends Phil Hellmuth, Tom Dwan, and Phil Ivey to take the top spot and £133,857. Shelley is a popular member of the PKR community, many of whom came to support him in his heads-up battle with defending champion JP Kelly.

Scott Shelley commented, “The last two weeks have been life changing and joining Team PKR Pro has been the icing on the cake. It is a privilege and an honour to join the likes of the current team members and I can’t wait to start representing PKR at future events!”

Shelley will make his first live debut at the forthcoming PKR presents London Calling festival and will then join fellow members of PKR Team Pro at PKR Live V in November. “I’m looking forward to showing PKR and its community what I can do” continues Shelley, “I aim for some more big wins, and most importantly increasing my bracelet collection.”

Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival top prize goes to Sweden

Ladbrokes Poker arrived back in Killarney for the 2010 Irish Poker Festival this weekend and the town was overrun with 632 players all looking to take home the top prize and enjoy the atmosphere.

Following 3 intense days of play and 622 players later the final 10 was reached. There were some shock early exits as a number of favourites failed to make the second day. Ladbrokes’ pro Jon “Skalie” Kalmer was the early favourite and chip leader going into the final table but came unstuck when he walked straight in to Lars’ Pocket Queens against his AJ. He immediately hit an Ace on the flop but the Queen on the turn sealed Skalies’ fate and he was out in fourth for €20,000.

The night ended with a 3 way all-in much to the excitement of the crowd, first Barry pushed on his button with J5 off which was insta-called by Lars’ in the Small blind with Pockets sixes, Paul also came along for the ride calling with A7. Lars’ sixes held up crowning him champion.

Irishman Paul Lucey finished 2nd winning €50,000 with fellow countryman Barry McGleenon finishing 3rd winning €30,000.
